What is Coronavirus? Symptoms of COVID-19

Coronavirus is a newly identified virus that has been spreading like an outbreak in China and is now spreading in all the other countries. With the escalated death tolls rising at a rapid pace, the health experts from across the world are currently up and working with all their possible efforts and energy to slack down the proliferation of the virus.

What exactly is Coronavirus aka COVID-19?

Now Coronavirus disease named Covid-19. The image of the electron microscope, reveals the structural details shaped like a crown from which the coronavirus got its name The coronavirus belongs to the large virus family, which leads you to suffer from respiratory issues, flu, as stated and researched by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A majority of people are vulnerable to this virus and get infected with the same at some point in their lives. However, the symptoms can range from mild to moderate. In a few cases, the viruses tend to birth illness related to lower-respiratory tract like bronchitis and pneumonia for instance.

The coronavirus is mostly prevalent in animals throughout the world, however, only a few of them have been identified to affect the humans as well. In rare cases, coronavirus evolves and expands from animals to humans. And the exact same things are known to have happened with the (MERS-Cove) or the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus followed by the (SARS-CoV) or acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus, both of which have been discovered to birth acute symptoms.

How much has Coronavirus escalated growth in China?

The first reported cases of coronavirus or the virus-like that of pneumonia were in China, Wuhan on the 21st of Jan in the year 2020. It was from then, that the virus started spreading like venom in myriad countries like the Republic of Korea, Japan, Thailand, France, the United States, Taiwan, and Australia.

Impact of Coronavirus in China

With an aim to put the brakes on coronavirus spread that have taken the lives of an approx. 100+ people in total in the past weeks in a large number of Asian countries and beyond, the authorities of China have shut down around 20 cities.

It was on 31st December, that China is reported to have alerted the WHO about its plethora of pneumonia cases in Wuhan. The infected group of people with the then-unknown virus was said to be the workers of Wuhan’s Hunan Seafood Wholesale Market, whose shutters were pulled down on the 1st of January. With the health experts working and striving hard to identify the unknown virus amidst its growth at an alarming rate, the percentage of infections took more than 40 lives by then.

It was on January 7th that the identification of the coronavirus happened as per the WHO. The major virus was then said to have been from the family of coronavirus, which comprises of the common cold, SARC.

The symptoms of Coronavirus

The coronavirus symptoms are similar to any other common respiratory infections, like the runny nose, sore throat, coughing and in some cases-fever. In the majority of the cases, it gets really daunting to differentiate between usual respiratory problems and coronavirus issues or if you have a virus that causes cold-like a rhinovirus.

You can get on some lab tests and diagnosis is done, including throat, blood and nose cultures to identify if your cold is caused by coronavirus or something else. The results of your test would not alter how you treat the symptoms, which basically diminishes in a few days.

Where did the Coronavirus come from?

The Chinese Krait or Snakes followed by the Chinses cobra is said to be the main and important source of the newly invented coronavirus that has fuelled an epidemic of a deadly respiratory illness in China last winter.

The Taiwanese or Chinese Krait, or the multi-banded krait or Bungarus multicinctus is a dangerous species having venom and was found in Southeast Asia and the southern or central China. Since the first reported case of the illness in Wuhan, in December, the illness is spreading at a faster pace and a large number of people of Wuhan is said to have been infected followed by other countries.

The Chinese scientists have used the virus samples, after isolating them from the patients and have taken into consideration the virus’s genetic code, and thereafter they took the help of microscopes to capture its images.

The pathogen creating this epidemic is a new-found coronavirus, which belongs to the same family of viruses-like the popular Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MES-CoV) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), which is said to have taken the lives of hundreds in the last 17 years. The new coronavirus has been coined as the 2019-nCoV by the WHO or World Health Organization.

Transmissions of Coronavirus

The coronavirus has been seen to spread from a person’s respiratory secretions like coughing. However, not much has been identified and understood regarding how it spreads.

The MERS-CoV has seen to have spread from one affected person to others through contact, such as through tending one another. The infected people have transmitted the MERS-CoV through healthcare settings like in hospitals. The researchers and health experts dealing with MERS haven’t identified any MERS-CoV spreading in the community.

The healthcare agencies around the countries with affected cases of coronavirus continue to research and study the spread and how MERS-CoV spreads from one person to another.
